Dr Zhong Luo
Vice President, Standards and Industry Development
We are proud to take part in this sixth World Policy Telecommunications Forum. A forum that fosters the achievement United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. And leads the way for fruitful collaborations to develop policies that provide access to digital, safe, and affordable technologies to everyone.
Huawei’s mission is to bring digital to every person, home, and organization for a fully digital, connected and intelligent world. So we see this WTPF21 as a great opportunity to contribute and get involved in the process of developing relevant telecommunications industry polices, leveraging the United Nations Specialized agency for Information and Communications Technologies, the ITU, as the global convening platform for this purpose.
WPTF can play key role in shaping the world’s ICT long-term development, by leading the way to build infrastructure and policy models to connect the unconnected, and drive the development of emerging technologies and digital economy, while accelerating the achievement of the UN sustainable development goals.
There is no doubt that the world now is facing a very crucial stage with exponential growth in the use of digital technologies and services. This can only be beneficial to humanity if the appropriate and effective polices and regulations are in place. The current five opinions that will be discussed in this WTPF are a good example of the collaboration and crystallization of inputs from around the world. Together we will discuss how to better harness these emerging technologies to tackle the most pressing challenges, including COVID19 pandemic, and accelerate the achievement of the 2030 agenda for sustainable development.
The five opinions of the WTPF21, addressing emerging technologies such as 5G, AI, IoT, Big Data, and OTTs will be further discuseed, developed, and enrchiched at the three working groups in the coming days.
Digital connectivity and infrastructure are essential building blocks in the digital ecosystem. And we believe that IPv6 justifies some special attention since it is crucial for Broadband connectivity, IoT, multimedia, and other digital services. Since IPv6 adoption today is highly uneven, we see that a global collaboration is essential to take action to complete a global IPv6 deployment, and avoid the global IPv6 network to be reduced into a series of “IPv6 islands”.
Thanks again and we look forward to fruitful discussion and collaboration in the coming days during this WTPF.
