Space connectivity
Space connectivity has become a critical component of global digital inclusion. Satellite technologies play a transformative role in extending connectivity to unserved and underserved areas where terrestrial infrastructure may be geographically, technically, or economically challenging to deploy. By complementing terrestrial networks, satellite systems help expand access to broadband services, support disaster response and early warning systems, and enable connectivity for remote communities, maritime operations, and aviation.
The space connectivity landscape is evolving rapidly through the deployment of Very-High-Throughput Satellites in Geostationary Orbit (GSO), advances in Low Earth Orbit (NGSO) satellite constellations, and growing partnerships between satellite operators and terrestrial telecommunications providers. These developments are creating new opportunities to expand connectivity while also raising important considerations related to spectrum management, regulatory frameworks, investment models, and the long-term sustainability of space activities. Strengthening international cooperation and effective governance will be essential to ensure that space-based connectivity contributes to an inclusive, resilient, and sustainable digital future.
